She won!!
Once in awhile when reporting on a story, you can start to get emotionally invested in it. And that’s a good thing, because we as political journalists aren’t doing sports reporting, we’re writing about real people whose lives -- or the lives of their children -- are on the line.
Sometimes that can happen even in horse-race campaign coverage, and regular readers of this newsletter probably already know what I’m talking about -- the congressional primary in Newtown, Connecticut, between Jahana Hayes and Mary Glassman.
Last night Hayes won an extremely satisfying victory over Glassman, whose backing by the Chamber of Commerce wasn’t enough to get her over the top.
There were a bunch of other victories by progressives last night, too, including Ilhan Omar and Randy Bryce, and some other satisfying defeats, including Lori Swanson in the Minnesota governor’s race -- who Rachel Cohen took apart -- and David Clarke’s deputy in the race to replace him as Milwaukee County Sheriff.
And if you missed it yesterday, the latest book from Strong Arm Press is out: The Truth About Social Security: The Founders’ Words Refute Revisionist History, Zombie Lies, and Common Misunderstandings.
With a subtitle that long, you know it has to be good.
